Hey Scott, that would be a great discussion. Where to find good prices on tools. I have been checking out rolling mills and a shear and brake but yikes the prices are so high!!! Harbor freight seems to be the best prices so far in my search, but probably not the best quality.
What a great opportunity to find someone who is selling their equipment Kim. Good luck!
I want a shear also. I priced them, many are in the $500 range, gezzz. I did see a less expensive one somewhere in the $100 range but forget where. I worry about what this means. In the mean time what I have works pretty darn well, so it is hard to justfy the price given that there are other tools I really need. I have little need for perfectly square corners.
Perhaps we should start a forum posts on jewelry supply houses for tools and beads and metal and such. That would be a cool resource.
When I get some time,(fall?) I will start up a supplier data base. I think I can export links finally from my browser (firefox). that will help tons.
Wow it even got better yesterday! I received this message from Etsy admin:
This is Adam from Etsy marketing. We are going to be featured in Mary Engelbreit's Guide to Creative Living. Alongside the description of Etsy, we get to include a photo. I would love to send them the photo of your ZIG ZAG Blue and Green Handmade Glass Lampwork Bead Set (listing #7594472) as a representation of great things that are available on Etsy. I just wanted to check with you to make sure that is ok. The only bad thing is that I don't think they will able to credit your shop directly. Please let me know!
How cool is that?
Of course I said yes. It is nice to get noticed!
Char, this is wonderful news! You hit on something good there :-)
Congratulations!
One thing though: Since this is an editorial piece and not a paid ad, your shop would normally be credited.
There's usually a "Where to Buy" section at the back of all magazines where your URL/contact info would go. You should bring this up in case Adam or whoever is handling this doesn't know about it (I hate to say that because they should know this already, but...)
You want to get clarification on if you get credit or not. If you do not, you might want to consider taking out an add in the magazine. Use the same image and promote where to purchase. Something small in the back. But check out the total paid subs first and other publishing statistics.
Thanks for the info. I really appreciate the support.
They do have free advertising but I think it is picked by the magazine. I did contact the publisher and request since Etsy will be using my photo to be included in their free advertising.
Their smallest ad is about $495.00. That is for a 12th page. It may be worth it though.
